Sheehan interested in Swansea head coach role on permanent basis

Athlone native Alan Sheehan is interested in holding talks to become Swansea head coach role on a permanent basis.

Speaking to BBC Sport Wales prior to the club's Championship fixture with Preston North End tonight (Tuesday), the interim head coach confirmed that he had been asked to lead the team for at least four more games.

Sheehan will take charge of tonight's fixture at Deepdale as well as Saturday's home game against Middlesbrough, the trip to Watford on March 12 and the home fixture against Burnley on March 15.

Sheehan was appointed to the Swansea caretaker head coach role on an interim basis following the Welsh club's decision to part company with previous incumbent Luke Williams.

Sheehan started his interim role with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Blackburn Rovers easing Swansea nine points clear of the relegation zone.

A win over the FA Cup quarter finalists tonight would boost Sheehan's chances to claim the head coach role on a permanent basis.

Speaking on BBC Sport Wales during his pre-match press conference, Sheehan addressed the head role vacancy.

"If the club want me to be that guy and they believe that I am the guy, then we'll have a conversation.

"I think it's important the football club gets the right person, that they believe and understand that there needs to be changes to be successful. I think everybody's got to be on the same page - there has to be nobody pulling against the current in any way," he said.
