Athlone Asian restaurant makes long-awaited return

Athlone restaurant Jalan Jalan, based on Church Street, has made it's long-awaited return after a year and a half long closure.

The restaurant re-opened to the public on Monday, March 3, after a devastating fire in October of 2023 forced the owners, Cindy and Kenny, to close it's doors.

"In the middle of the night, I got the call," Kenny said. "I was devastated. I couldn't believe this was the Jalan Jalan that I poured my heart into.

"The damage was very bad, but I knew staying in grief wouldn't change the reality. With love and determination, we started rebuilding.

"We're finally ready to be back. We missed you all and we are looking forward to seeing you all."

The Asian restaurant serves a mix of street food, with influences from all parts of Malaysia, Vietnam, China, and Hong Kong.

Jalan Jalan pride themselves on using fresh ingredients cooked to order.

The Athlone restuarant is one of three Jalan Jalan locations, with the business also having locations in Galway and Ballina.
