Members of the Moate Céilí Band who performed at the St Patrick’s Day Parade in Moate last year

Preparations continue for Patrick’s Day Parade in Moate

As the national feast day fast approaches, preparations continue apace in Moate for the hosting of the St Patrick's Day parade on Monday, March 17, at 1.30pm.

Members of the St Patrick's Day parade committee gathered on Saturday to continue the preparatory process as they positioned tricolour flags and bunting throughout the town creating ambience for an occasion which is always well supported.

Speaking to the Westmeath Independent, committee chairperson Stuart Clifford said he is hoping for similar parade participation to that of last year when approximately 60 community floats graced the main thoroughfare of the town.

"We are hoping for a similar number of floats from local sporting organisations and community groups to participate this year. As last year, all participants are encouraged to assemble in the grounds of Moate Business College, the parade starting at the Gap House at 1.30pm," Stuart explained.

The committee have been working diligently in preparation for the March 17 occasion with members of the local community encouraged to line the main street of Moate to witness what is a major social occasion in the annual Moate fabric.

"The committee will continue to work in advance of the parade ensuring Moate is looking its best on March 17," Stuart concluded.
