Applications open for Westmeath Sports Partnership club grant scheme
Westmeath Sports Partnership has announced that the 2025 Club Grants Scheme is now open for applications.
The scheme offers vital financial support to local sports clubs, community groups, and more, with grants of up to €500 per club.
It is designed to encourage new members to join sports clubs and enhance ongoing participation. Eligible initiatives include
· Encouraging new members to join sports clubs
· Enhancing ongoing participation
· Purchasing sports equipment
· Supporting new clubs with essential costs
· Covering coaching or referee course fees accredited by Coaching Ireland or a National Governing Body of Sport
Tony Wheat, Coordinator of Westmeath Sports Partnership, said: "The Club Grants Scheme is a fantastic opportunity for local clubs and community groups to access financial support that can make a real difference in encouraging participation in sport and physical activity.
"We particularly encourage applications from groups working with older adults, women, teenage girls, disadvantaged communities, and people with disabilities, as increasing participation among these target groups is a key priority for us."
"Applications will be assessed based on their ability to increase participation, sustainability, and impact on the community. As funding is limited (€20,000), eligible applications will be evaluated competitively. Successful applicants will be required to submit an expenditure report, along with receipts and photos, within six months of receiving their grant."
Cathaoirleach of Westmeath County Council, Cllr Liam McDaniel, says the scheme is of huge benefit to the county:
“I’m delighted to support Westmeath Sports Partnership's club grants scheme as I know it plays a vital role in fostering community spirit and promoting healthy, active lifestyles across our county. This initiative not only provides essential funding to local clubs but also encourages participation in sports and physical activities, benefiting individuals of all ages and abilities."
Applications will be open throughout March, closing on Friday, March 28. All applicants will be notified of the outcome before May. For more information and to view previous grant recipients, visit Westmeath Sports Partnership’s website.
