Castletown Geoghegan celebrate hurling and camogie success

The Castletown Geoghegan Hurling Club along with their Camogie counterparts held a joint Dinner Dance last Saturday night in the Bloomfield House Hotel, Mullingar.

The event was kicked off by our excellent MC for the night, Ray Gavin and after photos and a lovely meal, we got down to the medal presentation.

The first team to pick up medals was last year's U17 team and they were presented by team manager Jimmy Maloney. Next up was the senior camogie side and after some great words from joint Manager Fergus Shaw, the girls received their medals from Fergus and Pat Conway.

Then our guest of honour Michael Ryan got on the stage to present the senior championship and Division 1 league medals and had the large attendance enthralled with a short but very interesting speech.

We then had our player of the year trophies to be presented to the juvenile and senior players of the year. Our other guest of honour, Michael Stones from MJS Builds New York, our team sponsors who kindly donated the new awards, was on hand to do the honours here. First up was the juvenile player of the year award which was named in memory of Pauric Kirby, who died tragically last year. Pauric's parents Pat and Mairead presented worthy recipient Neale Pierson with the award.

Next up we had our senior player of the year which our winning manager Alan Mangan presented to Niall O'Brien. Following the presentations, we held our raffle and then the music began.

First up were the terrific band, The Afters, who had the entire gathering out on the dance floor and the night was brought to an end with a great set of music from DJ Aaron Whelan.

On a very memorable and successful night, Castletown Geoghegan hurling and camogie would like to thank, among others, Liz Connaughton and her brilliant staff from the Bloomfield House Hotel; the committee members of both clubs who did Trojan work in the weeks leading up to this. Our appreciation to MC Ray Gavin who kept everything running smoothly; to all who donated prizes towards the raffle and to the large attendance who ensured this was an amazing and memorable occasion for both clubs.

The club is extremely grateful to everyone on helping to make this such a wonderful occasion.
