Sharlene Mawdsley wins national 400m indoor title

Olympian Sharlene Mawdsley has taken the 400 metre indoor title this afternoon at the Indoor Athletics Championships.

The Tipperary native crossed the line first in 51:91 seconds with Phil Healy in second and Rachel McCann in third.

Conor Kelly, aged 17, won the men's equivalent in a time of 46:54.

Bori Akinola claimed his first National Senior Title, sprinting to a gold medal and finishing in a time of 6:61 in the Men's 60m.

Clonmel's Sean Tobin won the men's 3,000 metres just edging out James Gormley on the line.

David Kenny of Kerry won the 5,000 metre walk title for the fourth year in a row while Paris Olympian Eric Favours won the Shot Put.

Sarah Healy broke a championship record.

The 24-year-old won the women's 1,500 metres in a time of 4:12.37 beating the record set by Fionnuala McCormack back in 2013.

Mark Lawler also picked up a record time in taking the men's 200 metres by 20:74 seconds.
