Mount Temple duo to appear on popular TG4 talent show

Mount Temple siblings Ellen and Molly O'Meara are one of two sets of sisters from Westmeath who will appear on the third episode of the popular TG4 talent programme, Réalta agus Gaolta, on Sunday.

Hosted by Síomha Ni Ruairc, the programme showcases the best singing, dancing and musical families the nation has to offer, the O'Meara sisters hoping to achieved this season's accolade.

Speaking to the Westmeath Independent, singer-songwriter Ellen (27) said she was contacted to appear on Réalta agus Gaolta by a programme researcher, who had viewed a number of her TikTok reels.

"Having viewed my TikTok reels, a researcher from the programme called and offered me the opportunity to appear on this year's series. To be able to perform with my older sister Molly (29) on a national stage was a memorable and rewarding experience," Ellen said.

A newly-formed singing partnership, Ellen and Molly performed the former's self-penned song, 'Through The Motions', on the programme.

Released on Spotify tomorrow (Thursday), the song, Ellen said, is about an existential crisis, "not knowing what path to walk as you navigate life's journey".

"Molly provides great harmony in the song and adds to our performance. We thoroughly enjoyed the experience and are looking forward to continuing on this music journey together into the future.

Ellen started her singer-songwriter career in the midst of the pandemic, her popularity continuing to rise with growing numbers viewing her TikTok reels and liking her music videos online. Molly is currently based in Dublin.

Ellen and Molly are the daughters of Athlonians Anne Russell and Paul O'Meara.

Judging the Mount Temple duo on Sunday night are champion sean-nós singer Irial Ó Ceallaigh and award-winning broadcaster Sinéad Ní Uallacháin. They will be joined by guest judge Irish violinist Aoife Ní Bhriain, folk Instrumentalist of the Year 2024, whose career has traversed numerous musical genres including classical, traditional, jazz and contemporary music.

Mullingar based pair Haley and Corissa Mulvany will also appear on the talent programme on Sunday night.
