Athlone cafe to close its doors for final time this Sunday

Local café FINE will be closing its doors for the final time this Sunday, February 23.

The quirky coffee spot, located in the centre of Church Street in Athlone, has been offering its unique blend of delicious coffee and wines since it first opened in 2015 under the name Fine Wine & Food Co.

The company built up a loyal following, but eventually announced that they would be closing their doors.

In 2023, the café was purchased by a group of friends who loved it so much, they just couldn't let it shut. Pete, Savanna, Kevin, Ger, and Ciaran reopened the beloved local business under the new name FINE.

Since then, the café has become a staple in the town for it's unique offerings - from live performances, to wine tastings, to tasty nibbles.

Writing ahead of their closure, the FINE team said: "It’s happening. This Sunday will be our last, folks. Thanks so much for all the kind words and lovely sentiments over the past few weeks. It has made us feel all the feels.

"You might catch us looking back for one final time, pausing to ask ourselves…’Did we remember to turn the air-conditioning off?’

"We’re here later each day til closing. We’ve our book club on Thursday, Pizza Friday, music and a farewell party on Saturday night and then a day of mystery on Sunday (who will actually make it into work to open up?).

"Hope to see as many of you as possible over the next few," the business concluded.
