League of Ireland tributes paid following death of John Caulfield's mother from Lecarrow

Respects have been paid to the family of Galway United manager John Caulfield following the death of his mother, Nora.

The mother of the Lecarrow native passed away peacefully in the loving care of the staff of the Sacred Heart Home, Roscommon, on Wednesday.

Synonymous with the League of Ireland, Caulfield enjoyed a successful playing career with Cork City before taking over the managerial role on Leeside from 2013-2019.

Caulfield started his managerial stint with Galway United in 2020.

On Wednesday, Galway United released a statement offering their heartfelt condolences to their manager and the Caulfield family.

"We hope they find strength and comfort in the support of their loved ones, and the wider Galway United and League of Ireland community,” the statement read.

Cork City FC also offered condolences to their former player and manager, the statement noting that the club's "thoughts were with the Caulfield family at this difficult time".

The much-loved wife of John, and adored mother to John (Enniskeane) and Daniel (USA), Nora will be very sadly missed by her family, brothers Batt, Donie and Jeff, daughters-in-law Gráinne and Jackie, grandchildren Aideen, Sinéad and Ellie, sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews, relatives, neighbours and friends.

Nora is predeceased by her brothers Liam, Tadhg and Paudie. She will repose at Smyth’s Funeral Home, Roscommon (F42 NH27) this evening (Thursday) from 7pm until 8.30pm.

Removal from her home will take place tomorrow, Friday, at 10.30am arriving to St Patrick’s Church, Knockcroghery, for Mass of the Resurrection at 11am. Burial follows afterwards in Gailey Cemetery. May she rest in peace.
