Moore community activist seeking Roscommon County Council seat

A Moore community activist is hoping to secure a seat on Roscommon County Council and fill the void left following the death of former councillor John Naughten in October.

Valerie Duffy will contest Fine Gael’s selection convention in the Athlone Springs Hotel on Thursday, February 20.

Speaking to the Westmeath Independent, Valerie, said she was "extremely humbled" to be approached by the Naughten family to consider running for the former councillor's seat.

"Cllr Naughten made a real difference in our local communities and I would like the opportunity to continue this good work representing the views and issues that matter at county council level should I be successful at the selection convention," Ms Duffy said.

The deadline for nominations for the Fine Gael selection convention is tonight (Wednesday).
