Athlone's Thyme retains Michelin Bib Gourmand award for sixth year in a row

The renowned Thyme restaurant in Athlone has expressed delight at its retention of a Michelin 'Bib Gourmand' award for the sixth year in a row.

The Bib Gourmand award is given to restaurants which offer high-quality food for moderate prices, and is just a step below the Michelin star grade.

Thyme, which is in Custume Place, first became a 'Bib Gourmand' restaurant in October 2019.

The 2025 Michelin Star and Michelin Bib Gourmand recipients were announced this week and, in a post on social media, Thyme said it was thrilled to retain the Bib Gourmand distinction.

"Huge thanks, as always, to all the gang who work beside us to keep it all going and the customers that keep coming through the doors!" stated the restaurant.

Thyme was opened by John Coffey and his wife Tara in 2007 and has gone on to develop a reputation as one of the highest-quality eateries in the Midlands.
