Former constituency TD secures nomination to the Seanad

Former Longford/Westmeath Fianna Fáil TD Joe Flaherty has been named as one of the Taoiseach's eleven nominees to the Upper House in the Seanad.

Flaherty was a TD for the constituency from 2020 but lost his seat in the general election on November 29.

Flaherty, who failed in his initial bid to be elected to the Seanad, received the nomination news from An Taoiseach, Micheal Martin, on Friday evening.

Roscommon Fine Gael councillor Gareth Scahill also secured a nomination from An Taoiseach to the Seanad.
