‘Tell Tale Townie’ garners over €9,000 for the children of Gaza

Author John Tiernan handed over in excess of €9,000 to UNICEF Gaza/Lebanon Children’s fund, at a recent event at the UNICEF offices in Dublin. The funds were the entire proceeds of the sale of his hugely successful first book. The book, Tell Tale Townie, comprises a compilation of 22 short stories written with a fusion of humour and anecdotal nostalgia.

As well as thanking all those who purchased his book Mr Tiernan acknowledged and sincerely thanked all the commercial outlets that assisted in the sale of the book in the run up to Christmas including: The Athlone Bookshop, Village at Burgess/Lloyds Lane; Martin Mulligan’s Londis, Roscommon Rd; Dooley’s Fruit & Veg, Magazine Rd; Fernhill Garden Centre, Cornamagh; McGorisks Chemist, Clonbrusk and Mardyke St; Paul Whyte Chemist, Clonbrusk; Radiant Beauty Salon, Kiltoom; St. Brigid’s GAA Club, Kiltoom; SuperValu, Monksland; Westmeath Independent, Irishtown; Salmon’s News-Agency, Ballinasloe; Anne Sugrue & Kiltoom/Cam Community Group; Annette Fayne & Cushla Active Retirement Group; The Bastion Gallery, Bastion St and The Bastion Kitchen, Bastion St.

He also wished to specifically thank Padraic Kelly of PK Supplies, for his marketing strategy advice and expertise in ensuring an appropriate distribution plan. He thanked his family and nephew Tommy Tiernan as well as Patsy McGarry, Gearóid O’Brien and Seán Kilbride and the management and staff at the Shamrock Lodge Hotel who hosted the book launch.

The cause in aid of the children of Gaza/Lebanon struck a chord with the public and many purchasers contributed more than the face value of the book.

Furthermore, there were a number of individuals and groups who made specific donations to the Gaza children’s cause. The final tally of sales and contributions amounted to €9,065.10 which has now been passed on to UNICEF.
