Native Woodlands Trust to host ancient tree planting event in Lecarrow

The Native Woodlands Trust will host an event to plant ancient trees in Lecarrow this Saturday, February 1.

Taking place from 10.30am in the Lecarrow Native Woodland Trust Reserve, the planting event will feature trees grown from ancient tree seeds collected inside St John's Wood.

Native Woodlands Trust's Aaron Gallagher said: "Expanding an ancient woodland is a privilege. Thanks to your hard work, we've been able to cultivate more trees from seeds collected inside St John's Wood.

"We are now ready to plant up our first enclosure within our reserve, entirely filled with St John's stock. This is effectively spreading ancient woodland DNA within our own reserve."

On the day, the St John's Heritage Group will also host a walk through the woodland, piecing together the history of the area.

Attendees are advised to bring warm clothes, a spade or mattock, gardening gloves and a packed lunch. No experience is needed and families are welcome.

To RSVP, email Aaron Gallagher on aaron.gallagher@nativewoodlandtrust.ie, or contact Jeremy Casey on 0871953629.
