Live, local music this Friday at Dean Crowe Theatre Bar Sessions
The Dean Crowe Theatre bar will come alive with an evening of captivating live local music this Friday, January 31, hosted by the ever-charismatic Brian McCormack, also known as Brian Mac.
This special session promises a unique blend of sounds, featuring performances by the incredibly talented Jessica Shine and Sarah Donnelly, alongside the lively and eclectic band What's That Smell. The evening will be an exciting fusion of styles, from soulful vocals to upbeat rhythms, making for a night filled with energy and musical magic.
John McGlynn, Dean Crowe Theatre manager, says: “We want to give as much opportunity as possible to emerging and established local musicians with every support we can offer.”
He further adds: “As for the theatre itself, I want to see as many people as possible coming through the door, for different reasons.” These words reflect the vision behind the theatre’s Local Music Platform, designed to nurture and showcase the talent of Westmeath’s music scene.
Brian McCormack, a skilled guitarist and singer from Athlone, has spent years collaborating with some of Ireland’s top independent artists, and now he’s stepping into the spotlight with his own music.
Not only is Brian set to bring fresh ideas and new songs to the stage this Friday, but he is also the driving force behind the event itself. As the organiser, Brian has worked tirelessly to make this unforgettable night of music a reality, showcasing his dedication not just to his craft, but to the entire local music community.
Brian’s debut single, "Andromeda," which has been embraced by local audiences, was recently featured in the Midlands Battle of the Bands at 85DB Studios on January 17, further solidifying his reputation as a rising star. His blend of talent, vision, and commitment ensures that this Friday will be a night to remember—for both performers and attendees alike.
Sarah Donnelly, one of the event's distinguished performers, shares her background: "I moved to Athlone in 2016 and I have been performing publicly since 2019.
During my time here, I developed a profound appreciation for the region's vibrant music scene and I am deeply grateful to the Dean Crowe Theatre and Brian for affording me this opportunity."
In a recent statement, Jessica Shine, one of the featured performers, expressed her excitement about the upcoming event.
"It’s always a joy to share my music with the community I grew up in," she shared. "Music has been a part of my life for as long as I can remember, and I’m thrilled to perform alongside such talented artists."
Audiences can expect a dynamic set featuring a mix of her original compositions as well as carefully curated blues and country covers. Known for her ability to blend raw emotion with technical skill, Shine’s performances consistently leave a lasting impression.
Last but certainly not least, What’s That Smell? will be taking the stage alongside the other performers.
This high-energy trio, formed in AIT by three fun-loving musicians, has a knack for channeling life’s chaos into electrifying music. With a shared story of finding their path outside the typical routes to Dublin or Galway, their sound is fueled by raw emotion, frequent bouts of anxiety, and an unmistakable passion for the art. Known for playing at a blistering pace and with a fierce dedication to their craft, What’s That Smell? is guaranteed to leave the crowd breathless and craving more.
The Dean Crowe Local Music Platform, hosted in the theatre’s newly refurbished bar, offers a versatile and intimate setting for gigs, providing a valuable space for musicians to rehearse and perform. This initiative is all about supporting local talent and fostering a vibrant musical community in Westmeath.
