Gardai seize cannabis and cash worth over €17,000 at Athlone property

Gardai have reported a major drugs seizure in a residential area of Athlone earlier today (Wednesday).

The search was carried this morning out at a property in the Retreat area of the town.

It resulted in the recovery of cannabis which was "ready for sale and supply to others" and had an estimated street value of more than €15,000, pending forensic analysis.

In addition, more than €2,500 in cash was seized.

Gardai said officers from the Westmeath Divisional Drugs Unit, under Operation Tara, had carried out the search.

Two people have been arrested in connection with today's seizure.
