Horseleap man to climb Mount Kilimanjaro for Cancer Care West
Horseleap native John McGuinness is set to take on the incredible challenge of climbing Mount Kilimanjaro on Thursday, January 30.
John is completing the climb in order to raise funds for two worthy causes, Cambodian charity Hile Teuk Kampuchea, and Cancer Care West, Galway.
The Emirates airline pilot has a vested interest in both of the charities, making the challenge one that lies very close to his heart.
“When my dear mum was battling cancer, Cancer Care West was an invaluable support not just to her but to our entire family. Their compassion and care during her brave journey, which ended almost 10 years ago, left a lasting impact on us,” John said.
“My dear friend Alan has spent time in Cambodia working with HTK. He has shared his experiences firsthand; the stories have affected me deeply.
“It’s because of this connection that I can vouch that every penny raised will be used ethically and for its intended purpose, directly helping the children, whose lives your donation will not only change but save.
“[The fundraiser] will directly impact the lives of those in need—whether by saving children in Cambodia from drowning or by providing solace to cancer patients and their families.”
As of Monday, January 27, John's GoFundMe has raised €4,834 of his €5k goal from some 69 donations.
John is funding his full expedition out of pocket, ensuring that all money donated goes to the selected charities.
