Athlone Agri-Show looks back on highly successful 2024
At the recent AGM of the Athlone Agri-Show held in The Bounty Meeting Rooms, the outgoing chairman P J Glynn welcomed all present and thanked them for their attendance. On behalf of the Agri-Show committee he expressed his gratitude to all of the faithful sponsors who have supported the show over the years and his wish for 2025 is that they will continue to support the Agri-Show winning team for the 2025 show season.
He went on to thank all the team leaders from the various sections, Bovine, Equine, Ovine, Canine, Poultry, Food Village & Trade Stands, Cookery, Arts & Crafts, Photography, Hospitality, Show Grounds Director and all the voluntary committee members, for their dedication and commitment to making the show the success it is today.
He thanked Michael O’Donohoe for the magnificent show grounds situated in the beautiful and tranquil setting in Garnafailagh, Coosan. He thanked the vice chairman John Dolan for his contribution and complimented him on his successful reelection to the Council. He also thanked the various people who supported the Agri-Show activities over the year, especially the very successful table quiz night held in The Bounty, the Agri-Show launch and sponsors night, the show itself and the Christmas Tractor Run. PJ thanked everyone involved in the very successful Christmas Tractor Run, especially the participants with their illuminated tractors, Andy O’Donohue and the Abbeyshrule Tractor Run personnel for their help and guidance. The Agri-Show committee will be presenting Athlone Meals on Wheels and St. Hilda’s Special School with the total proceeds.
A special word of thanks is due to the Treasurer Michael O’Donohoe and assistant treasurer John McCann for their excellent housekeeping. John Mc Cann also deserves great praise for his excellent web site updates and Melissa Glynn for her quirky and informative show activities on social media.
He also thanked The Bounty for the lovely facilities for show meetings. The meeting decided to defer the election of Team Leaders until a meeting in January 2025
In conclusion PJ complimented the Agri Show General Secretary Oliver Flanagan for his excellent reports on Agri-Show meetings and his overall contribution to the successful running of the show. On behalf of the Agri-Show committee he presented Oliver with a beautiful inscribed trophy in recognition of his dedication and commitment to the Agri-Show scene in Ireland, where he accumulated over 100 first prize rosettes plus numerous trophies on his travels to the various shows around the country with his show exhibits in 2024.
He also secured two first prizes for his eggs at the English National Show held in Lincolnshire Show Grounds on Saturday November 19 & 20, and brought home the Champion Rosette & Cup for the Champion Waterfowl Egg Contents.
Outgoing PRO Michael Flanagan expressed his very sincere thanks to the local media for their generous and excellent coverage of the show. The Athlone Agri-Show will be held on Sunday June 15 when for the first time at the show, one of Ireland's top country bands Robert Mizzell and the Country Kings will entertain Country and Western fans from all over the midlands at the show grounds, with dancing & jiving competitions for young and old.
