Vibrant Midlands Photography Club invites new members
Midlands Photography Club, a vibrant community for photography enthusiasts of all levels and interests, is inviting new members as 2025 gets underway.
Whether you’re a seasoned pro or just starting your journey, the club is a place where creativity thrives, friendships are formed, and a shared love for photography unites everybody.
At Midlands Photography Club, they believe that everyone has something to teach, and something to learn, no matter where they are on their photographic path. The welcoming and relaxed environment ensures that every member feels at home, and their diverse calendar keeps the inspiration flowing.
From club meetings and guest speakers to practical tutorials, outings, weekend trips, and participation in Irish Photographic Federation competitions, there’s always something exciting happening.
Since resuming in September 2024 after the summer break, the club has already captured countless memories together. Their journey started with a Natural Light Portrait and Street Photography Workshop, expertly led by Evgeny Butusov, setting the tone for what was to come. Soon after, they launched a "Get Into Photography" course, designed by Nathan Cafolla, to help beginners and budding photographers sharpen their skills.
The club has been inspired by guest speakers like Helen Vaughan, who shared her photography journey, and Julie Corcoran, a conceptual photographer whose striking creations wowed us all. Julie also returned to host two hands-on workshops that left members brimming with new ideas.
Practical sessions have been a highlight of activities, including a ‘Light Set Up’ night for portrait photography and the always-popular Halloween Portrait Night. Still Life and Product Photography also took center stage during a fantastic presentation and demonstration by Gerry Campion.
The club thrives on exploration, and day trips have taken them to stunning locations like Connemara, Birr Castle, Lough Boora, Clonmacnoise, Newcastle Woods, and more. Last autumn, they ventured farther afield with two unforgettable weekend trips— one to the dramatic landscapes of Achill Island and another to the breathtaking Killarney National Park, both guided by the knowledgeable landscape photographer Robert Riddell.
At Midlands Photography Club, they are passionate about showcasing members talents. From exhibitions at the Golden Island Shopping Centre in Athlone, to their annual end of year booklet featuring members’ work, they celebrate the creativity and growth of everyone in the club.
As the new year begins, the club is excited to offer even more workshops, inspiring speakers, trips to stunning locations, and post-processing tutorials. If you’ve recently picked up a camera or are looking for a fulfilling new hobby, why not join?
Discover new skills, make lasting connections, and find inspiration in a friendly and supportive environment. The club meets at St Ciaran’s Hall, St Mary’s Square, Athlone (N37 H270).
