Funeral details announced for Athlone man who died in tragic workplace accident
Funeral details have been announced for Patrick (Paddy) Harney, the Monksland, Athlone, resident who lost his life in a tragic workplace accident yesterday.
The death of Mr Harney, who is part of a well-known local family, has been met with deep shock and sadness throughout Athlone and surrounding areas.
The fatal accident occurred at a concrete manufacturing plant in Bealnamulla at around 2pm on Wednesday.
Mr Harney was pronounced dead at the scene, and the Health and Safety Authority (HSA) said it is carrying out an investigation into the circumstances.
The deceased, who was aged in his 70s, resided at the Old Tuam Road in Monksland.
Mr Harney was predeceased by his parents Michael and Vera, grandchild Emmet Claffey and niece Michelle.
He is sadly missed by his heartbroken wife Margaret, sons David and Neil, daughters Aoife (Claffey) and Aileen (Beaumont), sons in law Damien and Ultan, daughter in law Siobháin, his beloved grandchildren Andrew, Georgia, Eoin, Keelin and Patrick, brothers Frank, John and Michael, sister Mary, sisters in law, brothers in law, nieces, nephews, relatives, work colleagues, neighbours and many friends.
He will be reposing at his residence (N37 VH28) this Sunday from 3pm to 6pm, prior to the funeral Mass on Monday in SS Peter and Paul's Church at 11am. Burial afterwards will be in Drum cemetery.
