Athlone's Doron Harte appointed deputy principal of Cornamaddy school

Local man Doron Harte has been announced as the new deputy principal of Cornamaddy Community National School in Athlone.

His appointment to the role was highlighted by the Longford Westmeath Education and Training Board (LWETB) in a social media post over the Christmas period.

A son of Geraldine and Matt Harte, Doron grew up in the Retreat Park and Coosan areas, and attended Athlone Community College. He went on to become well-known in GAA circles as a player with Garrycastle and the Westmeath senior football team.

"A proud Athlone native from the Coosan area, Doron Harte brings a wealth of experience and passion for education to this role," stated the LWETB as it announced his appointment.

"With a Bachelor of Arts from University College Galway, a Postgraduate Diploma in Primary Teaching from Hibernia College, and a Diploma in Educational Leadership and Management from Maynooth University (2021), Doron is dedicated to continuing to create a school environment where everyone feels supported and included.

"Doron joined Cornamaddy CNS in 2013, having previously taught at Mount Temple NS and Ballynacargy NS," it added.

"Doron said he is excited to work alongside principal Yvonne Naughton to continue to create an open, inclusive environment where every pupil is inspired and supported to reach their potential."

In 2023, Cornamaddy became Athlone's first multi-denominational national school when it was transferred from its former Catholic patronage.

Since August 30, 2023, the school has been under the governance of the LWETB.
