Popular Athlone health food cafe closes its doors

Another popular Athlone restaurant has closed.

Eat Unique, a well-known health food restaurant, based in the Monksland Industrial Estate, announced on New Year's Eve that it had closed.

In a post on Facebook, it attributed its decision to close to a rental increase and to the uncertainty of the industry.

Stating that the time had come to down the knives and hang up the aprons, it said: "We would like to thank all our amazing customers for being part of our journey. Your loyalty and support have allowed us to achieve almost 10 years in business, something we are incredibly proud of.

"To our fantastic team, past & present, we want to thank you all sincerely for your hard work and dedication. It’s been a roller coaster of highs and lows. Thank you for sticking with us and helping our small business achieve big things!" the post, signed 'the Eat Unique team', concluded.
