Moate CCÉ to host Wren hunting event on St. Stephen's Day

Moate CCÉ invite members of the public to join them on St. Stephen's day for their hunting the Wren event.

Members of Moate CCÉ will be playing tunes from 3pm at the library building on Main Street in Moate.

This is a pagan event attached to St. Stephen, the first Christian Martyr a defender of the church (an arch Deacon at the time) back when he was being chased by Roman soldiers, he hid behind a fruze bush and a whistling or singing wren got him caught.

The group will be celebrating the capture of this bird and parade him on a stick up and down the town (a fake one, no birds are harmed at this event!).

The festive event is free of charge, and costumes are encouraged.
