Tyrrellspass clubman bound for Ard Chomhairle
Joe Daly is to become Westmeath’s latest delegate to the GAA’s governing Central Council, or Ard Chomhairle.
Daly’s election was one of the only changes to the existing county committee setup at last Thursday night’s Westmeath GAA convention in the Mullingar Park Hotel.
The Tyrrellspass clubman, who has served Westmeath GAA in various capacities in the past including as a Leinster Council delegate and as co-ordinator for the senior footballers, replaces Mullingar Shamrocks’ Tom Hunt, whose five-year term has expired.
Former county secretary Pat Reilly paid tribute to Tom “for the way he represented Westmeath on Central Council, and the information he brought back to us”.
Daly’s move upstairs means that he vacates his current role as Leinster Council delegate. He will be succeeded in this role by Des Maguire (Mullingar Shamrocks), who put his name forward unopposed.
Meanwhile, Delvin duo Willie Murphy and Seán O’Brien are to succeed Francie Donoghue (Tang) and Albert Lowry (Tubberclair) as two of Westmeath’s five delegates to the annual Leinster GAA convention, where they will be accompanied by Michael McHugh (St Loman’s, Mullingar), Joe Martin (Ballymore/Fr Dalton’s) and Westmeath GAA head of operations Patrick Doherty.
All other incumbent officers were returned for 2025.
