Dolan prioritises educational facilities in Roscommon and Ballinasloe
Fine Gael General Election Candidate for the Roscommon-Galway constituency, Senator Aisling Dolan has placed a priority on the improvement of education facilities in both Ballinasloe and Roscommon.
Senator Dolan has pledged a new school for Ballinasloe, as well as prioritising a Further Education Centre for Roscommon Town.
Scoil An Chroí Naofa has been waiting 28 years for a new school, and locals have recently put up posters warning candidates that if they want votes in Ballinasloe, they must deliver the school.
“I have raised this on multiple occasions and progress has certainly been made, but it has become increasingly clear that we need a TD in our town to drive major projects forward. The delivery of a new purpose-built Scoil an Chroí Naofa is absolutely vital and I will not rest until it happens,” said Senator Dolan.
"We are now waiting over 28 years for a new school to cater for more than 300 children. This is a shocking indictment of delays in the system and I want to change that and deliver on the much-needed projects for the town."
Senator Dolan has also said that Further Education facilities in Roscommon would provide a vital resource for Roscommon’s young people, as well as for those considering a change of direction in their careers.
She has spoken with An Taoiseach, Simon Harris, about the great need that exists across the county and region and has confirmed his backing on the matter. “The Taoiseach has indicated clear support for a further education centre in Roscommon. There is significant demand in our region as there is currently no apprenticeship centre in the county.
“We desperately need to see access to apprenticeship programmes in Roscommon town. With such a facility, school leavers or career changers could avail of any of 70 courses currently on offer from auctioneering to biomedicine, and from farm management to traditional craft and trades.
"As well as giving people the best start on the career ladder, if we can offer NFQ Level 5 and 6, as well as Degree or Postgraduate level, right here in Roscommon, this will bring huge employment opportunities to local areas,” explained Senator Dolan.
