Relics of St Bernadette of Lourdes to be displayed in Athlone this weekend
Ss Peter & Paul's Church in Athlone will host the relics of St. Bernadette from tomorrow (Saturday) until Monday, as the relics' tour of Ireland draws to a close.
A special weekend of prayer and renewal is planned in St Peter and Paul's parish to coincide with the visit of the relics.
This will begin at 12 noon on Saturday, with the Angelus, followed by a welcoming ceremony.
St. Bernadette’s relics will be located inside the sanctuary entrance of the church, and people will be able to pause and pray close to them, though it will not be possible to touch them as they will be encased in a protective glass box.
There is a full programme of religious events over the weekend, with the last one commencing at 11.45am on Monday, November 4: Mid-day prayer ending with The Angelus & Benediction.
A substantial number of visitors are expected to attend to venerate the relics.
Following the events in St Peter and Paul's Church, the relics of St Berndette will visit the Church of the Risen Christ, Kiltoom, on Monday and Tuesday, November 4 and 5.
