Halloween night 'busier than usual' for Athlone fire service
Halloween night last night (Thursday) was busier than usual for Athlone Fire Station, which received three call outs to incidents related to bonfires in the town.
Pat Hunt, Senior Assistant Chief Fire Officer with Westmeath County Council, told the Westmeath Independent: "Considering in other years it was quieter, I believe it was busier this year due to the weather.
"It was quite a mild and dry evening."
Mr Hunt said the Athlone station received four calls last night.
These included one false alarm, while the others were to incidents at bonfires in the Coosan, Battery Heights and Brawny areas.
