Irish Wheelchair Association event raises almost €14k

The annual 5k run/walk organised by Irish Wheelchair Association Athlone (IWA) Branch has once again been a huge success. The event on Sunday, September 29, has raised the amazing total of €13,669.

Branch Treasurer Tom Daly said: “Over the last couple of years, we have shared our story and how all the money raised is spent to improve facilities in the wider Athlone area.

"Things achieved in the recent past include the complete refurbishment of the sensory garden in Clonbrusk and the purchase of an electric Trishaw bike. Annual trips for the Sunshine Club to Lough Key Forest Park and the Wild Lights Show at Dublin Zoo have become a highlight.

"We also organise a holiday for up to ten adults with disabilities in Lough Lanagh Holiday Village, Mayo."

Tom added: “We couldn’t do this without the support of a brilliant fundraising committee, IWA centre staff and the Athlone Branch committee led by chairman Frankie Keena".

Committee member Fiona McCormack added: “We’d like to sincerely thank the local community and all the local businesses who have supported us this year. We’ll be keeping everyone updated on our activities during the next year."
