Local singer/songwriter to release new single on Friday

A Taughmaconnell singer/songwriter will perform two dates in Athlone over the coming weeks to promote her latest single 'Girl In A Coffee Shop'.

Ciara Lawless, who is a former student of Our Lady's Bower, has been making waves on the Irish music scene since she released her debut single 'Half The Man' in May of last year, and followed this up with two more singles and her debut album earlier this year.

The hugely-talented chanteuse is set to release her new single on Friday, October 25 next, and has embarked on a national coffee shop tour, performing intimate, stripped-back sets in cosy venues across the country to promote her latest musical offering, including two upcoming Athlone dates.

Having already performed in Beans & Leaves Cafe in the town on Friday of last week, Ciara Lawless will perform in Fernhill Cafe at 1.30pm on Sunday next, October 20 and in Bastion Kitchen Cafe on Friday, November 1 next at 6.30pm.

Her new singles, 'Girl In A Coffee Shop' accompanied by an acoustic and a cappella version, dives deep into themes of individuality and the power of small actions to create change. The acoustic pop track blends live-recorded sounds from a real coffee shop with catchy percussion and a memorable sing-along chorus, perfectly capturing Ciara's signature soulful sound and introspective lyrics. The song will be accompanied by a music video which will also be released on October 25 next.

25-year old Ciara, who is also a DJ on Ros FM in Roscommon town, has been involved in musical theatre and local stage schools from a young age, attending The Academy of Music in Tullamore to study classical music and opera, and also studying singing with Petrova Mulvey in Athlone. She fell in love with songwriting and was lucky enough to get the opportunity to go to LA and France and got to collaborate with some very talented singer/songwriters and hone her craft. A recent Hot Press review described Ciara as a promising artist “capable of delving into difficult themes about the human experience, all the while turning them into melodic pieces of beauty”.

The release of 'Girl In A Coffee Shop' marks the first release from Ciara Lawless since she launched her debut album 'Paint My Soul' in April of this year, which has been praised for its powerful vocals and soul-stirring melodies.

Not content to rest on her laurels, and having spent a busy summer touring the festival circuit and completing a UK tour, the dynamic Taughmaconnell native has already recorded her second album which is due for release next year.

'Girl In A Coffee Shop' will be available on all streaming platforms and local fans of Ciara Lawless can catch up with her at one of her two upcoming dates in Athlone.
