Athlone musician Liadh releases second single

Athlone-based musician, songwriter and producer Leah Moloney – performing under the pseudonym Liadh - has released her second single titled Illusions on Friday, October 18.

It comes after the success of her debut single Can’t Face The Day, which received airplay on Today FM, 98FM, iRadio, Midlands 103 among others.

Liadh was also one of Midlands 103’s ‘New Local Hero’ finalists for Irish Music Month, and named as one of Today FM’s ‘Irish artists we are loving lately'.

Her newest single was written about her struggles with depression, anxiety and dissociation, and sees Liadh create a strong visual world which evokes her feelings of fear and detachment.

She was inspired by the books 'Piranesi' by Susanna Clarke and 'Alice in Wonderland' by Lewis Carroll, which deal with the nature of reality, time and perception.

Liadh said the song is a very vulnerable yet hopeful piece of work.

“When I was struggling with my mental health, I remained aware that my scary feelings and perceptions were but Illusions. They were not truly me. And I would find my way out of them," she said.

Illusions is the title track of Liadh's debut EP, and was co-written, produced and mixed by award-winning producer Lisa Murray, and mastered by Izzy McPhee at Weird Jungle.

Liadh has a background in psychology and a fascination for the human mind and behaviour, using her music to create lyrically vulnerable work about topics such as sobriety, mental health and neurodiversity.

The Athlone artist is fluent in Irish and French, and draws on her love of languages and literature in her lyrics, linking pop with other artforms.

As an emerging artist, Liadh shows she isn’t afraid to push boundaries in both the content and form of her music.
