Efforts are being made to set up a new scout group at the Moate Sports & Recreation Centre (located in the town's community hall).

Volunteers sought to help set up new scout group in Moate

A call-out for volunteers has been issued as part of an effort to set up a new scout group in Moate.

The initiative is being led by Scouting Ireland in partnership with Moate Sports & Recreation Centre.

A statement posted on the centre's website said: "After a period without scouts in the area, we believe now is the perfect time to bring this wonderful opportunity back to the local community.

"Before taking the next step, we are seeking expressions of interest from adult volunteers who would be willing to help provide scouting activities for young people in Moate and the surrounding areas.

"Scouts engage in a wide range of fun and educational activities, including camping, hiking, survival skills, community service, and team-building exercises.

"Through these experiences, young people learn important life skills such as leadership, resilience, and responsibility.

"Scouting also fosters a strong sense of camaraderie, helping to build confidence and lifelong friendships."

The statement went on to say that volunteers looking to get involved should be "enthusiastic about outdoor adventure, leadership, and supporting the development of young people".

"Let's bring Scouting back to Moate and create new adventures for our young people!" it concluded.

Those who may be interested in volunteering with the scout group are asked to contact Peter at Scouting Ireland (pobrien@scouts.ie or 087 4826523), Deirdre at Lakelands Scout County (087 6479711) or Keith at Moate Sports & Recreation Centre (moatesrc@gmail.com or 090 6481733).
