Well-known local solicitor mourned by Moate and wider Athlone communities

A leading figure in the local legal community is being mourned by communities in the town and his native Moate following his recent death.

Gerard Cochrane of Gerard Cochrane & Co Solicitors passed away at the South Westmeath Hospice, Athlone, on Sunday, October 13.

His practice had an office in Athlone on Custume Place, which was founded over 20 years ago, as well as an office in Dublin.

Gerard was the son of Matthew and Mollie Cochrane, who ran a busy drapery shop on the Main Street in Moate when Gerard was growing up.

As the family is also heavily involved in local GAA clubs, Gerard was included in the minute's silence at the Westmeath Senior Football Championship final at TEG Cusack Park on Sunday.

Gerard is predeceased by his parents and brother Patrick. He is mourned by his siblings Danny, Joseph, Michael, John, Ann Marie and Edel and the extended family.

Gerard's remains will be reposing at Flynn’s Funeral Home, Moate on Tuesday, October 15 from 5pm until 7pm.

Removal on Wednesday to travel via Custume Pier, Athlone to The Carmelite Church, Moate arriving at 12.50pm for Funeral Prayers. Funeral Mass at 1pm. Burial afterwards in Kilcurley Cemetery, Tubber.
