Sinn Féin add Barry Campion to general election ticket
A new Sinn Féin candidate has been added to the general election ticket in the Longford Westmeath constituency following the selection of Barry Campion.
Mr Campion ran in the local elections earlier this year for Granard Municipal District, receiving 253 first preference votes.
“I am delighted to announce that I will be joining Sorca Clarke TD on the ticket in Longford Westmeath for the upcoming general election,” he said.
“Myself and my team are striving to bring change across the constituency and believe it’s now time for change.”
Mr Campion has lived in Longford for the last 10 years with his husband, Ciaran. He previously volunteered with the Irish Red Cross and was involved in the foundation of a local unit in Longford.
He believes in equality and campaigned for a Yes vote in the Marriage Equality Referendum in 2015. He is also one of the organisers of the inaugural Longford Pride Parade and celebration, in June of this year.
Mr Campion will run alongside sitting Sinn Féin Deputy Sorca Clarke who hopes to retain her seat.
