Athlone's Apollo through to Puppy of the Year semi-finals

Athlone pup Apollo has been put through to the Petmania Puppy of the Year semi-finals.

The pretty pooch was selected as one of six to make it through to the semi-finals, and owner Amanda Murniece and her pup are hoping to represent the town at the final.

Amanda is simply delighted that her pup is doing so well in the competition, noting that Apollo tends to leave an impression on people.

“He puts a smile on everyone's face and leaves a mark anywhere he goes,” she said.

“He has put the happy spark back in my life, and I am so proud of him.”

Apollo's owner said she decided to get her beloved pet after losing her childhood dog after 15 loving years.

“I wasn't sure I was ready for a new dog, but when I saw Apollo – I just fell in love.

“Now he is here for me everyday, and is always making me and my family laugh,” Amanda said.

Speaking about why she believes Apollo should go to the final, Amanda said: "I believe Apollo should win puppy of the year because he is the most kind, boisterous and friendly puppy going."
