Kristofferson 'brought fans to tears' in Mullingar
The legendary Kris Kristofferson was one of the headline acts at a major music festival that took place in Mullingar in 2007.
The Midlands Music Festival took place at Belvedere House and Gardens on the weekend of July 28/29 - but the weather was so wet that wags dubbed it the "Mudlands Music Festival".
Kristofferson took to the stage with just a guitar and a harmonica, and fans got to hear him sing all his big hits.
"For the fans, it was a treat and there were more than a few grown men and women reduced to tears," wrote journalists Ronan Casey and Sharon Newman.
It was quite an achievement securing the appearance of a global singing star for a concert in Westmeath, and in advance of the event, the Westmeath Examiner wrote of the significance of the occasion: "A true country gent, it is incredible to think that this man will be on stage in a town like Mullingar, and it should be an honour for the audience to watch him play."
