Ballinasloe artist collective open annual exhibition on Culture Night
Ballinasloe artist collective Group 8 will hold the opening of its yearly major exhibition titled 'UISCE' on Culture Night, Friday the 20 September, at 7pm, in the Town Band Hall, Ballinasloe.
The exhibition will run from 11am until late Friday 20, and 2pm to 6pm Saturday 21, and will feature writing, paintings, textiles, photography, ceramics, and mixed media works
'UISCE' is the result of work the members of Group 8 undertook while taking inspiration from the waterways of Ballinasloe – the River Suck, the callow floods, the marina – and beyond.
The artists considered the symbolism and meaning of water and its importance to Ballinasloe today and in the past; each artist or writer was free to interpret the watery theme in their own way.
Group 8 was founded in 2009 and is now expanded from its original cohort of eight members to ten visual artists and two writers.
Those exhibiting this year are Joyce Little, visual and multimedia artist; Lily Kelly, visual artist; Grellan Ganly, visual artist; Nuala O’Connor, writer; Zara Little-Campbell, writer; John Soden, painter; Fiona Ormsby, textile designer; and ceramicist; and bridal accessories specialist Amy Uí Neachtain, who trades as AUN Bridal.
