Moate outdoor cinema screening a major success for second year

By Rebekah O'Reilly

Moate Town Team hosted its second consecutive outdoor cinema event in Dún na Sí Amenity and Heritage Park on Saturday last, September 7.

The event was a huge success, with roughly 1,500 people showing up to enjoy the film in the open air.

Temperatures soared into the 20s on the day, making it a warm and enjoyable evening for guests, as they watched the film in the serene surrounds of the park.

The Universal Pictures animated family movie Migration was shown at this year's event, a film which follows a family of ducks as they decide to leave the safety of a New England pond for an adventurous trip to Jamaica.

It was free to attend the film. Income from all donations and sales of popcorn went towards the cost of running the event.

There was very positive feedback from those in attendance. Attendees said the outdoor cinema was an "unforgettable evening", and that it was "so well organised".

Moate Town Team, which was established as part of the Government's 'Town Centre First' programme, provides avenues for funding and development of projects and events in the town.

A spokesperson for the Town Team said it would like to thank Westmeath County Council, local businesses and Dún na Sí for making the outdoor cinema screening possible, as well as its members for their continued hard work, particularly the events sub committee, which also organised the very successful Trad Fest in June of this year.
