New season at Athlone Photography Club to be launched

Athlone Photography Club is to launch its new season this week.

The launch event will be held at Abbey Road Artist Studios at 7.30pm, on Wednesday, September 4, marking the club's eleventh anniversary. Founded in 2013, the Athlone Photography Club has become a key part of the local creative landscape, known for its friendly and inclusive atmosphere that encourages members to learn, share, and develop their skills together.

With over a decade of fostering a vibrant community of photographers, the club continues to be a hub for enthusiasts of all levels, from beginners to experienced professionals, and is eager to welcome both new and returning members.

This season, members can look forward to a diverse range of activities, including beginner photography courses, model shoots, editing workshops, landscape and wildlife trips, and insightful guest talks.

For those new to photography, a special members’ beginners course is scheduled for Saturday, September 14, to learn the basics in getting started with your camera.

A major highlight of the upcoming season is the guest speaker event on September 11, featuring James Crombie, the AIB Press Photographer of the Year for 2021 and 2022. James, who has recently covered the Olympics, will share his experiences and insights, offering a unique opportunity to learn from a leading professional in the field.

Membership fees remain affordable, with rates set at €65 for regular members, €50 for students and seniors, and a family rate of €100. The launch night will also introduce members to a series of exciting events, including the popular mystery night of photography challenges and a comprehensive talk on macro photography by club photographer Sean Ganly, followed by a hands-on practice shoot a few days later.

Additionally, the season features a three-part model shoot series, starting with a session on working with models, followed by the first official shoot of the season, and concluding with an editing workshop focused on portrait photography.
