Saturday League of Ireland round-up: Sligo Rovers beat Waterford to move up to third

Sligo Rovers have beaten Waterford FC 2-0 in the League of Ireland Men's Premier Division, gaining ground in the race for Europe.

Rovers redeemed themselves at the Showgrounds after their 7-0 defeat away against Drogheda last week.

Wilson Waweru and Simon Power's goals were the difference for John Russell's side in Sligo on Saturday evening.

Elsewhere, Shelbourne failed to reclaim top spot in the Women's Premier Division.

Eoin Wearen's side were left frustrated after a 1-1 draw at local rivals Bohemians.

Galway United tightened their grip on third place with a 2-1 win at home to Sligo Rovers.

Joy Ralph's goal gave Shamrock Rovers a 1-0 win away to Peamount United.

Treaty United beat Cork City 3-0 at Markets Field, while Wexford were 1-0 winners at DLR Waves.

On Sunday, in the Men's Premier Division, Bohemians host Shamrock Rovers in the Dublin Derby at the earlier time of 11.30am, while St.Patrick's Athletic welcome an in-form Drogheda United to Richmond Park, with kick-off at 6pm.
