Ballinasloe set for return of popular Féile Cheoil event

Ballinasloe is gearing up for the eleventh annual Féile Cheoil Larry Reynolds, which will bring the best of traditional Irish music, dance, and culture to the town from Thursday, September 5, to Sunday, September 8.

Originally launched in 2013 to honour the musical legacy of Larry Reynolds, the festival has grown into a dynamic four-day celebration of East Galway’s rich musical heritage.

Over the past eleven years, it has evolved from a tribute concert into a must-attend event that draws in music lovers and culture enthusiasts from near and far.

This year’s 11th anniversary celebration promises to be the most exciting yet, with an expanded programme of events including workshops in five musical instruments and Sean Nós dancing, more than 30 trad music sessions, both indoors and outdoors, a singers circle, and heritage events.

The Féile Cheoil will also host the U18 Open All Ireland Fiddle Competition, and Cómortas Labhairt na Gaeilge.

In addition, there will be photo and shop window display competitions, interactive crafters on the streets of Ballinasloe, and many other attractions.

The continued success of the Féile Cheoil Larry Reynolds can be attributed to the hard-working voluntary committee whose passion and dedication have helped grow the festival into the event it is today.

Their tireless efforts, creativity, and love for Irish tradition have elevated the festival, year after year, helping it become a beloved fixture on the Irish trad festival calendar.

Chairperson Martina Flanagan expressed her excitement ahead of this year's festivities, stating: “As we begin our second decade, we look forward to welcoming both familiar faces and new friends to Ballinasloe for another outstanding Féile Cheoil. Having been involved from the very beginning, it has been incredible to see the festival grow and thrive.

“With top-tier artists and musicians, we stand alongside iconic traditional festivals like Feakle, Willie Clancy, and the Joe Mooney Summer School.”

The overall cost of running the festival this year is approximately €25,000, and the organisers said the event would not be possible without the generous support of its sponsors.
