Major Tullamore jobs blow as Cardinal Health closure plan is confirmed
A large employer in Tullamore is to close on a phased basis by March of 2026, resulting in the loss of 300 jobs.
Medical devices firm Cardinal Health today (Thursday) confirmed the phased shutdown of its facility in the Tullamore Business & Technology Park, at the Sragh Industrial Estate, inside the next two years.
The company held a meeting with staff in Tullamore this morning, which outlined the closure plan and the redundancy package that would be offered.
"We'll retain a strong presence in Ireland, but the plan is for Tullamore to close," a company spokesperson told the Offaly Independent a short time ago.
The company said its production operations in Tullamore would be "consolidated... to other facilities within our self-manufacturing network in March of 2026.
"Commercial activities in Ireland will not be impacted by these plans," said Cardinal Health.
"This decision is part of our regular assessment of our global business, manufacturing and supply chain operations to ensure we are able to meet the evolving needs of our customers, the industry and our business."
Offaly County Council Cathaoirleach, Cllr Tony McCormack, described it as "a sad day for the workers and their families," noting that the plant had been a significant employer in Tullamore for more than 40 years.
