Hospice Morning at Horseleap's The Auld Haggert

Horseleap's unique outdoor farm museum – The Auld Haggert – is the location for a fundraising coffee morning on Saturday, August 24, which will raise raise much-needed funds for Offaly Hospice.

The Hospice coffee morning fundraiser has been taking place at The Auld Haggert since 2022, and has been a huge success, and the Laragy family, who own and operate the unique farm museum in Horseleap are hoping for yet another successful fundraiser this weekend.

The fundraiser will take place tomorrow morning from 10am to 12 noon at The Auld Haggert, which is located on the Old Dublin Road, the N6 Newtown, Horseleap (Eircode: N37 EW96), and is open to all.

The Auld Haggert has been operated by three generations of Laragy's, and is packed full of old farm machinery that was worked by horse and donkey in bygone years. The Laragy family have worked the ploughs, grubbers, harrows and sowers which are on display for well over 150 years combined.

The Auld Haggert, which was first opened to the public in 2020, and is free to enter, has two very special pieces of vintage machinery on display, a mobile forge and a hand block machine.

Johnny Doran, Secretary of Moate Vintage Society, has praised the work of James Laragy in collecting and repairing such a huge display of old farm machinery at The Auld Haggert and still finding time to go to work each day. James is a gifted carpenter who has been instrumental in collecting and preserving many items of farm machinery which are now regarded as timeless vintage pieces.

The Auld Haggert attracts many visitors from far and wide, and as well as being beautifully preserved, it displays the Irish national flag as well as many flags from other countries. During the month of May, James Laragy also display a beautiful May bush outside his home, which is an ancient Irish tradition which no longer exists in many parts of the country.

All are invited to The Auld Haggert in Horseleap tomorrow morning, Saturday, August 24, from 10am to 12 noon for the annual Offaly Hospice Coffee Morning fundraiser, and to browse through the many vintage farm machinery items on display.
