GAA President to attend Maryland pitch opening

Maryland GAA will be unveiling their brand new training pitch this Saturday, August 24 at Fr Brady Memorial Park in Drumraney.

Current GAA President Jarlath Burns will be in attendance to mark the occasion as well as the Sam Maguire Cup, which was won by Armagh, the home county of Burns, at the end of July. Indeed, Burns has made a major impression with his stirring speeches when presenting various trophies this year.

The club has several activities organised for the day for all ages, including a discussion forum with Burns, Maryland and Westmeath footballer Kieran Martin and two time Westmeath All Star John Keane, which will be led by sports journalist Gary Connaughton.

Other activities on the day include a Maryland legends game between past players, underage tournaments, and a BBQ in Cunningham's bar, Ballymore, that evening.

The Maryland GAA grounds caters for a range of different teams and age groups including Maryland's own intermediate team, in addition to Maryland/Tang underage teams, Drumraney Camogie Club and Goldsmiths LGFA teams.

The Drumraney based club has worked tirelessly hard over the last number of years to make the new training pitch possible. The extra playing field is a very welcome addition to the GAA grounds and will allow easier allocation of training times and matches between all those who use the facilities.

Maryland GAA is welcoming everyone to join them on the day to mark what promises to be a great occasion for the community. The day's activities kick off with seven-a-side underage games at 10.30am.
