Home draw for Athlone Town in FAI Cup quarter final

Athlone Town have been drawn at home against Drogheda United in the quarter finals of the Sports Direct Men's FAI Cup.

The Town advanced to this stage in dramatic fashion, when two goals late in extra time saw them overcome a 2-1 deficit away to Waterford FC last Friday.

The draw for the last-eight stage was made this afternoon, and saw Athlone being paired with Drogheda United, who are currently at the foot of the Premier Division table, two points behind second-from-bottom Dundalk.

The most eye-catching pairing in the quarter final draw saw the top two teams in the Premier Division being pitted against each other, with Derry City set to host Shelbourne.

In addition, UCD were drawn at home to Bohemians, while Wexford will host Treaty United. The latter fixture guarantees that at least one First Division team will make it through to the semi-final stage.

The quarter final ties will be played on the week ending September 15.
