Gardai investigating break-in at GAA club in South Roscommon

A GAA club's premises in South Roscommon sustained damage during a break-in which occurred during the early hours of last Saturday morning (August 17).

The incident happened at Clann na nGael GAA club in Johnstown, and involved entry being gained by forcing a window.

"There was a bit of damage done, but nothing was taken," club chairman Cathal Durney told the Westmeath Independent this afternoon (Monday).

He said it appeared that the break-in was carried out with the intention of stealing money, but it was destined to fail because money was not kept on the club's premises.

Filing cabinets at the club were rummaged through during the break-in, as were supplies and equipment in a medical room.

Gardai in Roscommon are investigating the incident, and anyone with any information is being asked to contact their local Garda station or the Garda confidential line on 1800 666 111.
