Presentation to Fr Innocent on his departure from Athlone

The Knights of St Columbanus recently bade farewell to fellow member, Fr Innocent Sunu, as he left Athlone to take up a new role in Sligo.

Ignatius Lynam, Grand Knight, made a presentation to the Nigerian priest who had been based in Athlone's Parish of Saints Peter and Paul, but is now a curate at St Mary’s Cathedral Parish, Sligo.

In his address to Fr Innocent, Mr Lynam said: "Your unwavering faith, devotion and dedication to your spiritual growth has been a source of inspiration to us all at the Knights and we are grateful for the guidance and wisdom you have shared with us during this short time.

"Even as you venture forth on your western path, you remain in our thoughts and prayers." Fr Innocent Sunu's appointment in Sligo took effect on August 1.

Writing in the St Peter and Paul's parish bulletin recently, Fr John Deignan thanked him for the contribution he made while in Athlone.

"Over the past two years, his friendly disposition and genuine care for our community have touched the lives of many parishioners," wrote Fr Deignan.

"As he embarks on this new chapter at Sligo Cathedral, we wish him every happiness and success in his endeavours and we have no doubt that he will bring the same level of compassion and commitment to his new role.

"We look forward to welcoming him back in October, when we will celebrate the time he spent with us."
