Athlone Sub Aqua Club rescue dog missing from cruiser on lake

There was drama of an unusual kind on Lough Ree this afternoon, after a family reported their pet dog had fallen overboard a cruiser.

Thankfully, all ended well, when members of Athlone Sub Aqua Club located Max, a little Jack Russell Terrier, floating in his lifejacket.

The club members had responded to a distress call after a family realised their dog was missing

The Sub Aqua Club said Max was overjoyed to be brought aboard their boat. The club members carefully examined Max, and while a bit cold and shaken from the ordeal, he was otherwise in good health.

"We are thrilled to have been able to reunite Max with his family," said club chairperson Janet Mullen. "This incident underscores the critical importance of wearing lifejackets, not only for people but for our pets as well, when out on the water."
