JJ Killeen’s to host ‘Live at the Marquee’

Promising a weekend of dance and song, Shannonbridge's 'Live at the Marquee' events will take place the weekend of August 23 to August 25.

The weekend will see music from country to ABBA fill the rooms of JJ Killeen's, on Shannonbridge's main street.

Kicking off on Friday 23, Mike Denver and his band will be performing alongside special guest 'The Big Chief Kevin Kearney'.

Saturday will see Derek Ryan take to the stage, accompanied by special guest Jack Keogh.

Finally, Sunday will have a evening of a 70s and 80s Marquee Megadisco, with ABBA-esque Live the highlight of the final night.

Speaking to the Westmeath Independent, Darren Purtill, one of the organisers of the event, gave further insight into the weekend.

“To have an annual event is the idea”, Darren said.

“There used to be a festival on in the late 60s and 70s – the Shannonbridge Carnival”, Darren continued: “In a way we're trying to relive the good times”.

“Generally, it will be a non-seated event, with no seating areas”, Darren explained, though there will be seating in the bar area.

Prepared for the volatile weather this summer has provided, Darren noted that “weather-wise, there will be a big-top marquee should the worst happen”.

Providing one last hurrah before the summer's end, there is no denying that not only do 'all roads lead to Shannonbridge', and good fun is to be had at JJ Killeen's.
