Official route announced as Cannonball supercar spectacle to make Athlone pitstop

The official route has been announced for this year's Cannonball supercar fundraiser, which will include a fuelling stop in Athlone's Circle K M6 service station on Sunday, September 8.

The event - which is billed as "the largest organised road trip in Europe, featuring the finest cars on the planet" - will involve a total of 200 supercars and free family festivals, while covering 1,000km of Irish open roads

The Jack and Jill Children’s Foundation will be the charity beneficiary of this year's Cannonball event, which is taking place from September 6-8.

Cannonball has already raised €1,638,432 for Irish charities to date and brings a unique and inimitable electric atmosphere to host towns all over the country making it a widely-anticipated free family event for spectators.

Ferrari, Lamborghini, McLaren, Porsche, Aston Martin, and Maserati are among the car brands set to take part in this year's event.

Outlining the route that will be followed this year, organisers explained that on Thursday, September 5, the Cannonball crew will roll into Johnstown Estate in Enfield to get set for another adrenaline-fuelled spectacle.

Cannonball drivers are due to start arriving from 6pm providing an opportunity for spectators to view the engineering excellence and breathtaking design of their cars.

On Friday, September 6, at 10am, the gleaming convoy will depart Johnstown Estate and is set to arrive in Edenderry for 11am.

The cars will then blaze a trail to Kilkenny for a lunch stop at the Lyrath Estate Hotel.

After finishing the day in Wexford, the cars will travel west on September 7, before returning to Leinster on Sunday, September 8, where they fuel up at Circle K M6 Athlone at noon.

The big dramatic final finish line for Cannonball 2024 is in Trim, Co Meath, at 5pm on Sunday, September 8, which is expected to be a spectacular show.

This year the official charity of Cannonball is The Jack and Jill Children's Foundation - an Irish children’s charity that funds and provides up to 100 hours per month of in-home nursing care, respite support and end-of-life care for children from birth to six years of age with severe learning disability often associated with complex medical needs.

Cannonball was founded by Kildare businessman Alan Bannon and the benefit to the host towns for this event has been estimated at €2,567,000 per year.
