By Rebekah O'Reilly

New figures have shown that, during the first six months of this year, people taking their driving test in Mullingar had a highest pass rate than in Athlone.

Mullingar driving test centre boasted a 49.01% pass rate pass rate out of 1,870 driving tests completed for Category B (Car or light van), followed by Athlone which had a 44.3% pass rate out of 1,525 tests completed.

Between January and June, some 3,395 driving tests were conducted in Westmeath, with 46.84% of those yielding a successful outcome for the learner driver.

Westmeath's neighbours in Offaly had the highest pass rate in the Midlands, at 54.98%, while elsewhere in the region the driving test pass rates were 44.1% in Roscommon and 41.7% in Longford.

Westmeath carried out the highest number of tests in the Midlands, with 3,395 driving tests conducted in the country, followed by Offaly, which had 2,888 tests carried out over the same period.

Another interesting statistic for the Midlands shows that Tullamore had the highest number of no-shows in their driving test centre coming in at 65 total in the first six months of this year.

This is compared to 62 no-shows in the Mullingar driving test centre, and 48 no-shows in the Athlone driving test centre in the same period.

The driving test centre with the lowest amount of no-shows in the Midlands was Birr in Offaly, with the two test centres in the town reporting only 30 total no shows in the first half of the year.
